About Us

History

Frank Castillo arrived here from Mexico at the age of 12 without knowing a single word of English. Frank worked hard in school and worked hard to learn the English language.  While at Fox Tech High School his father encouraged him to learn a “trade”. Frank took a sheet metal and welding class his junior and senior year. While attending high school his father gave him two options. Go to college (he knew this was going to be an unrealistic option as he was working full time at the family bakery as well as going to school) or learn as much as you can about a trade while in high school. This way once he graduated, he could actually graduate with a skill and use it out in the real world.

Upon graduation, Frank worked several jobs relating to sheet metal fabrication. He also enlisted in the Air Force reserves all the while working long hours at and learning as much as he could.

Frank was laid off twice in a matter of 6 months and it was then with the support of his wife that he decided it was time to go on his own and start his own company, so in December 1980 Casteel Mfg. came into existence. Frank started his business out of their two-car garage at his home. Frank knew that with hard work and perseverance that he could make Casteel Mfg. a success. During his career, Frank built great relationships with several of his competitors. Believe it or not, it was his competitors who would graciously rent Casteel equipment and machinery in the beginning. Frank was known for his hard work, his extensive knowledge, and problem-solving abilities.

In a short time, Casteel had grown so rapidly that he rented a warehouse location for about 4 years.  Then in 1985, Frank decided to build his own fabrication shop. Currently, Casteel consists of two fabrication areas and office space at 3747 Pitluk Avenue, San Antonio, TX  78211.

Due to Frank’s vast knowledge of the sheet metal industry, with over 47 years experience Casteel quickly established itself as one of San Antonio’s best sheet metal shops and fabricators. Today 99% of Casteel Mfg. business is repeat customers.
